Kitchen Safety
- Always keep a lid close at hand for every pot or pan that's in use on the stove. If a fire starts in a stovetop pot or pan, cover it with a lid and turn off the heat source.
- If a fire is burning in your oven, keep the door closed and call the Fire Department.
- Never leave anything, especially grease or oil, unattended on the stove.
- Keep clothing from coming in contact with open flame or heating elements. Reaching over the stove could cause garments to catch fire, especially the sleeves of robes, dresses, housecoats, etc. Wear snug-fitting or short-sleeved clothing.
- Keep a fire extinguisher near the kitchen - one that can be used for an electrical fire or a grease fire.
- Turn pot and pan handles inward so children won't pull them down from the stove.
